Christian Community School Abuja

Christian Experience at CCS

As our name implies, Christian Community School aims to lift up Christ and provides opportunities for students to know Him in a personal way and to grow in faith.  This is done by providing committed Christian teachers who care for their students’ spiritual welfare as well as their academic progress. In addition to Bible lessons, each week students learn memory verses from the Bible. The Bible is also integrated into most subjects in the curriculum. Weekly fellowship groups are provided for students at each of the three levels of the school (Early Years, Primary, and Secondary). A Week of Spiritual Emphasis with special programmes for both staff and students takes place during each academic session.  Before each new term, parents and CCS staff come together to pray for the school.

Staff

CCS is known for its warm, friendly family atmosphere.  Experienced and well-qualified teachers work collaboratively to give students the best learning experiences possible.  Regular professional development is provided to enable both teaching staff as well as support staff to keep growing and improving in their profession and service to the school.  A very low turnover rate of staff adds to the stability and consistency of the school.

Prefectship

Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles to demonstrate responsibility.  Prefects are carefully nominated and elected by their peers under the supervision of mentors and counsellors.  Only Senior Secondary students who have spent at least three to four years in the school and serve as CCS ambassadors are eligible for such leadership roles. These prefects are accorded varying responsibilities to help maintain order, serve as role models and support academic, religious, health, social, and sanitary activities.

Clubs and Activities

CCS has a variety of clubs which typically include the following:  Chess Club, Art Club, Basketball, Badminton, Coding. Girls’ Guide, Homemakers, Orchestra, Photography, STEM/JETS, Dance Club, Nursery Dance Club, Gymnastics, Lawn Tennis, and Craft Club.

Basketball and soccer teams also enable CCS students to compete with other schools in matches and in local tournaments.

Excursions are organized to enrich learning by providing students with opportunities to visit relevant sites and locations both within and outside Abuja. These visits help them connect classroom learning to real-life situations.

School Events

CCS celebrates special holidays each year with special programmes for the parents and community. This begins with Nigeria Day to celebrate our country’s independence, then the Christmas programme honouring the birth of Jesus Christ and the Easter programme where students mark His death and resurrection through songs, spoken word, dance, and drama.  Other annual events include Parents’ Night, Interhouse Sports, Reading Month, Science or Educational Fair, Spiritual Emphasis Week, Awards Assembly and Graduation.  Special Class Assemblies from time to time also afford students the opportunity to present to their parents a display of what they are presently learning. The PTA also organizes special events for the students such as Christmas Fun Day.
